Siren at SakuraCon

Description

SakuraCon 2006, I wore aquarium plants in my hair (and coral, which itched) and a coat made entirely of fishing net, flotsam, and about 85 hours worth of work.

There are other things, of course, like makeup (done by the MAC artists at Nordstrom), a corset, jeans, and shiny fabric, but it's honestly all about the coat.

This coat is still being added to, bit by bit, as I find things that just belong in the coat. There will be more photos of it taken this coming spring/summer, depending on whether or not I can get a photographer I like to make a roadtrip with me to a more appropriate setting for a sea creature than a convention hall. ^^;

Based on my idea of what a Siren, a mythical Greek monster who caused shipwrecks, would wander around wearing. Sadly they didn't have any human bones at Michael's, or those'd be in there too.

What's in the coat, as of this picture: fifteen feet of plastic aquarium plants, found shells, shell leis, sheer ribbon, bluegreen fuzzy yarn, pop tabs, plastic six-pack rings, fishing line, dirty canvas, silver fishnet, green broadcloth, twenty square feet of actual fishing net, and a cannibalized cardigan.

Thanks to Eurobeat King, the friend of a friend, for taking the photo and posting it to the internet. I am notoriously bad about getting photos of my own costumes.
